Every week I get to meet lots of people at networking events. What's really flattering these days is that people often ask my advice on building their own profile. Just recently I've been asked how to build a speaking career, how to launch a premium online community, how to promote a book using business networking as a platform, and plenty more besides.
Almost without exception, what people describe to me isn't really a lack of confidence at all. It's a comparison. They feel they aren't confident because they're not as good as someone else at a particular thing, or because somebody, at some point, told them they should be good at something they're simply not.
When people ask me to coach them on networking skills and help them get better results, they usually start out expecting that we will just talk about networking. What they are often looking for is to become “better” at networking in isolation. Better at walking into a room. Better at their 60 seconds. Better at making small talk.
I was asked recently why I post so often on social media. It made me stop and think, because the honest answer is about something much bigger than social media. It’s about connection.
Have you heard about the ‘elevator pitch’? If you have, you’ve probably been told that that’s what you should say in your networking sixty seconds. I disagree!
Professional speakers: here’s how to prove authority - showreel, proof and positioning - so event organisers feel confident booking you for conferences and corporate events.
Struggling to get engagement on your posts? Here’s why speakers need to engage first - and how showing up for others makes them show up for you.
This is why it is worthwhile bringing a professional, experienced speaker to your event. Your audience will thank you, and will come back next year.
Here's a list, with links, of business events and conferences where Stefan Thomas will be the keynote speaker, or appearing, in Autumn 2025
How do I ensure that the speaker I book for my business conference or event delivers the message we need to deliver to our team?
There’s something magical about a great talk, isn’t there? The kind where the audience leans in. Where the room shifts from distracted to dialled in. Where people are still talking about it over coffee three hours later — or better yet, weeks later in meetings.
Let’s be honest. Booking a speaker can feel like a bit of a gamble. You read the bio, you watch the highlight reel, you get the slick PDF — and still, you’re thinking: Will this person actually land with our people?
How Much Does a Professional Speaker Cost – and Why? Let’s talk about money. Because whether you’re organising a conference, booking your first-ever keynote, or trying to stretch a tight budget for an internal team day, the question almost always comes up:
So you're thinking of hiring a professional speaker for your event - but what do you actually get?
